Day Twenty-Three: Organizations serving survivors

Background:

There are all sorts of ways we can get involved in the movement - you’re doing it by partaking in this challenge right now! If you’re wanting to get involved further, we always recommend supporting and volunteering with survivor-led and survivor-centered organizations.

Action: What to look for and look OUT for!

  • When looking to human trafficking organizations to support and volunteer for, beware of the red flags they might have to show how they’re really supporting survivors, or furthering harmful narratives.

    • Things to look for:

      • Diversity and Inclusion on website/marketing

      • Credible Statistics

      • Clear messaging about where donations go towards/their services

      • Empowering messaging about survivors

    • Things to look OUT for:

      • Phrasings like ‘saving’ or ‘rescue’

      • Using one demographic in imaging

      • Outlandish statistics and sensationalized messaging

Action: Check out these 51 survivor-led organizations

Action: Raise donations for survivors!

  • Continue working on gathering donations to help us hit our goal of $5000 this June!
