Background:
There are all sorts of ways we can get involved in the movement - you’re doing it by partaking in this challenge right now! If you’re wanting to get involved further, we always recommend supporting and volunteering with survivor-led and survivor-centered organizations.
Action: What to look for and look OUT for!
When looking to human trafficking organizations to support and volunteer for, beware of the red flags they might have to show how they’re really supporting survivors, or furthering harmful narratives.
Things to look for:
Diversity and Inclusion on website/marketing
Credible Statistics
Clear messaging about where donations go towards/their services
Empowering messaging about survivors
Things to look OUT for:
Phrasings like ‘saving’ or ‘rescue’
Using one demographic in imaging
Outlandish statistics and sensationalized messaging
