Day Twenty-Seven: Raising children into compassionate people

Background:

“Boys will be boys'“ an adage giving an excuse to boys’ behavior - good, bad, or otherwise. But treating our sons and daughters differently - ie creating negativity around femininity - regarding punishment, expectations, and behaviors breeds people into viewing women as less than themselves, treating them like objects, and allowing places like the sex industry and sex trafficking to thrive.

Action: Listen to survivors

Learn from Lived Experience Leader, Rayanne Irving in this clip where she talks about the importance of community and compassion, instilling confidence in our children, and allowing boys to feel all their emotions.

Action: Check yourself

  • Do you harbor negative emotions towards femininity? Whether it’s in men or women? We ALL are designed to have masculine and feminine energies within ourselves, and being able to be in touch with ALL our emotions and feelings helps us be more well-rounded and compassionate towards other people.

  • How can you strengthen your sense of community to better yourself and those around you?

Action: Share what you’ve learned

  • As we finish up with the #MoveForTheMovement challenge in these next few days, share what you’ve learned with your family, friends, or tag us on Social Media to help amplify education, survivor voices, and raise awareness.
